Fishing
Each cast ends in a fish, a Wet Boot or an other catch: the water picks the fish and the equipped bait picks the other catch. Any body of water can be fished, a pond dug at a base included, but only the 28 fishing spots marked on the map change the odds. The Hunter's quest Unknown Waters introduces fishing, and the Fisher later crafts the two Epic rods and four of the 11 baits.

Wet Boot
Fishing rods
5Fishing Strength sets how fast a hooked fish tires, and Fishing Endurance how long the angler holds out before the fish escapes. The two catch factors multiply a spot's Wet Boot and other catch chances. Boots are rarest with the Lucky Fishing Rod at x0.5 and most common with the Cursed Fishing Rod at x5, a rod whose shown strength of 2 is really 1.8.

Fishing spots
18Fishing spots are fixed and few, 28 across the map: Veilwater Basin has 10 and the Nomad Highlands 7, and Springlands and Revelwood have 2 each. The fish farm in the Nomad Highlands holds both extremes, with one spot landing a Wet Boot 30% of the time and another bringing up other catches at 12%.

Catch rates by spot
19Away from the marked spots a cast brings up 96% fish, led by Lakehopper and Shimmerfin at 33.8% each; each Epic fish sits at 0.34%. The spots shift that mix toward particular fish. Lakehopper and Shimmerfin reach 45.42% in Springlands, every Rare fish 8.16% at a Kindlewastes spot and every Epic fish 1.58% at one in the Albaneve Summits. A fish listed at 0.02% to 0.04% is a token weight that the spot all but excludes.

13Reeling gets harder with rarity. A Lakehopper takes 1 round with 5 endurance and allows a 1.3 s reaction window, but a Shockfin takes 9 rounds, has 85 endurance and leaves only 0.75 s to react. The three Epic fish are also the only ones used in 2 recipes each.

Bait
11Bait has no say in which fish bites; it only picks the other catch pool. The live baits are regional, such as the Fire Fly found at night in Springlands or the Frog of Veilwater Basin, and four of them have a pool to themselves. Simple Fishing Bait shares the Fire Fly pool, and the four crafted Fisher baits share the Frog's.

63Each pool leans on potions, bandages and the Lockpick, which alone comes up 12.51% of the time in five of the six. Three gems share 9.9% and four rings 10.0% in those five, and the rings rise in grade with the bait's region until the Fisher and Frog pool, where the Ultimate rings, Ring of Thundersnow and Ring of the Heir reach 12.2% together.

Fishing Difficulty setting
5The Fishing Difficulty setting scales rod strength, rod endurance and the reaction window. Very Easy raises all three to x1.5 and drops the advanced minigame, Easy uses x1.25 and removes 6 reeling rounds, and Very Hard cuts strength to x0.9 and the other two to x0.8. Survival worlds fish on Hard and Relaxed worlds on Easy.
